Air Liquide delivers oxygen throughout Europe in a mode of supply to suit each of our customer's needs: liquid, cylinder or onsite production

General Informations about Oxygen (O₂)

Oxygen (chemical formula O₂) is a gas essential to life.

On the earth's surface (where it is the most abundant chemical element), Oxygen represents 89% of the water present, 21% of the air we breathe and 62% of the human body (in molecular form).

It is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas. Mixed with other chemical substances, it reacts strongly.

Oxygen is essential for many industries.

Air Liquide therefore produces and supplies oxygen in adapted volumes to meet the industries’ needs.

This gas improves the efficiency of many processes, eg. by reducing the amount of energy required or lowering carbon dioxide emissions.

It can also be used in metal fabrication applications such as smelting, cutting and welding.

It is also a key component for industrial health and safety.

Applications :

Here are some of these applications, by activity :

Automotive

In the automotive industry, Oxygen (as a gaseous mixture) allows the calibration of span gases in engine emission tests (see our OTO Range).

Food

In aquaculture/fish farming, it allows the oxygenation of fish or seafood breeding ponds.

It is also used for conditioning under Modified Atmosphere (See our food gases ALIGAL™ 3 and ALIGAL™ 27).

Chemistry

Used in combination with other molecules, it is used in the manufacture of plastics.

Electronic components

Used ultra-pure, Oxygen is used for the oxidation of certain materials.

Environment

Oxygen enables environmentally friendly bleaching of pulp, or melting of glass.

It is also used in biological water purification and clean waste incineration.

Fabrication mécanique et métallique

Combined with a fuel gas (such as Acetylene), Oxygen is used for oxy-fuel welding and cutting .

Iron and steel industry

Oxygen allows the decarburization of cast iron to produce steel and to enrich the air in blast furnaces.

Laboratories

In laboratories, Oxygen pure or in high quality mixtures is used as Flame Gas, Instrumentation Gas, and as Oxidizing Gas (see our range of analysis gases ALPHAGAZ™).

Metallurgy and Steel Industry

Oxygen is used to enrich gas mixtures in order to improve the energy efficiency of processes (oxycombustion, etc.) and the efficiency of furnaces.

Supply mode :

In cylinders of various sizes, in bundles, or in liquid form, Oxygen is available in all supply methods to suit your uses and consumption profile.
